The last week of data for the year U.S. real estate market is in and it may surprise you, but pretty much all the signals for housing in 2024 are pointing for growth now. Inventory is slowly but steadily increasing over last year, which means slightly more options for buyers this spring. Sales rates are climbing. We have more homes going into contract each week now than we did a year ago — supply and demand are climbing together.

U.S. single-family rent growth softened year-over-year in October, but remained above pre-pandemic levels. Rental prices were up by 2.5% annually in October, cooling from 2.6% annual growth in September. It was the largest drop between September and October in more than a decade. Rent growth was also the lowest since the summer of 2020. That’s according to CoreLogic ’s Single-Family Rent Index (SFRI), which analyzes single-family rent price changes nationally and across major metropolitan areas.

The company’s executives held a conference call with employees on Dec. 15, notifying them about the job cuts because of a “lack of work” and “warehouse lines of credit,” a former underwriter told HousingWire anonymously for fear of retaliation.
